Isam SHAHROUR is a graduate of the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées. He is a professor at the University of Lille and a member of the French Water Academy. He was vice-president “Research” of the University Lille1 and director of the “Civil Engineering and Geo-Environment Laboratory”. He is also strongly involved in economic development and international cooperation.

Over the last 10 years, he has focused his academic activity on sustainable and smart cities with the implementation of large-scale pilot projects of smart infrastructures (water, energy, ..) and buildings.
His academic activity has resulted in about 170 journal articles and the supervision of
100 PhD theses. He has given more than 50 lectures on topics related to the sustainable city
the smart city and the resilient city, including two TEDx talks.

Recently, he has been engaged in writing a series of comic books
on the city and its sustainable and smart transformation.
